ส่วย มีความหมายตามพจนานุกรม ฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน พ.ศ.๒๕๔๒ หน้า ๑๑๔๓ หมายถึง ของที่เรียกเก็บจากพื้นเมืองส่งเป็นภาคหลวง ตามวิธีเรียกเก็บภาษีอากรในสมัยโบราณ และยังหมายถึง เงินช่วยราชการตามที่กำหนดเรียกเก็บจากราษฎรชายที่ไม่ได้รับราชการทหารเป็นรายบุคคล ที่เรียกว่า รัชชูปการ
