การเกิดไข่แฝดธรรมชาติมักเกิดในระยะที่แม่ไก่เข้าสู่วัยสาวที่ระบบสืบพันธุ์สมบูรณ์เต็มที่ แค่ช่วงเวลาเดียวเท่านั้น ไข่ไก่แฝด (Double Yolked Egg) เกิดจากการที่แม่ไก่มีไข่แดงตกในท่อนำไข่พร้อมกัน 2 ฟอง ผนังของท่อนำไข่สร้างไข่ขาวออกมาหุ้มไข่แดงทั้ง 2 ฟองไว้ในฟองไข่เดียวกันและผ่านกระบวนการสร้างเปลือกไข่ตามปกติซึ่งมีโอกาสเกิดไม่แน่นอน มีเปอร์เซ็นเพียงน้อยนิดแค่ 0.03 % เท่านั้น (https://pauldy.com/minimalist-design-furniture-2016/)
