หากจะพูดถึงบอร์ดเกมว่าคืออะไร…ก็คงจะบอกว่ามันคือเกมนั่นเอง หากมองย้อนกลับไปในยุคที่คอมพิวเตอร์ หรือ Smart Phone หรือ Tablet ยังไม่เฟื่องฟูเช่นในปัจจุบัน ก็คงจะนึกกันออกว่า เกมในยุคนั้นก็คือเกมที่เราสามารถจับต้องได้ เล่นด้วยกันได้แบบเห็นหน้าเห็นตา ได้พูดคุย มีปฏิสัมพันธ์ซึ่งกันและกัน โดยบอร์ดเกมก็มักจะเป็นเกมประเภทที่มีกระดาน ลูกเต๋า ตัวเดิน หรือการ์ดต่างๆ เป็นอุปกรณ์ในการเล่น

หากยังนึกไม่ออก ก็คงต้องนึกย้อนไปถึงเกมสมัยเป็นเด็กๆ ของคนเกือบแก่อย่างผู้เขียน ก็จะนึกถึงพวกเกมเศรษฐี บันไดงู หมากฮอส หมากรุก นี่แหละ…ขอบอกเลยว่ามันคือบอร์ดเกมที่เค้าน่าจะเรียกกันในยุคนี้ ทีนี้เราคงจะร้องอ๋อกันแล้ว ว่ากันว่าบอร์ดเกมอาจเป็นเกมที่ใช้ความสามารถในเชิงกลยุทธ์ หรือใช้โชคหรือดวง เป็นส่วนประกอบก็ได้ แถมยังได้ฝึกทักษะต่างๆ ไปด้วย
