แมวเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงที่อยู่คู่กับมนุษย์มาเป็นพันปี และได้รับการยกย่องว่าเป็นเพื่อนผู้ซื่อสัตย์ที่สร้างความผูกพันอย่างลึกซึ้งระหว่างมนุษย์กับสัตว์เลี้ยง หนึ่งในสายพันธุ์ที่โดดเด่นและได้รับความนิยมเป็นพิเศษคือ “แมวส้ม” หรือ “แมว Ginger” ด้วยลักษณะขนสีส้มสดใสและนิสัยที่เป็นมิตร ขี้อ้อน ทำให้แมวส้มเป็นขวัญใจของคนรักแมวทั่วโลก จึงไม่น่าแปลกใจที่วันที่ 1 กันยายนของทุกปีได้รับการกำหนดให้เป็น “วันยกย่องแมวส้ม” หรือ Ginger Cat Appreciation Day เพื่อเป็นการระลึกถึงคุณค่าและความสำคัญของแมวสีพิเศษนี้ ตลอดจนเป็นวันแห่งการรณรงค์ให้ผู้คนหันมาใส่ใจสัตว์เลี้ยงและสัตว์จรจัดมากขึ้น (Mothana, 2565)
