มานครปฐมต้องไม่พลาด “ข้าวหมูแดง” ด้วยความที่ผู้เขียนเป็นคนนครปฐมมาแต่กำเนิดเห็น ข้าวหมูแดง มาตั้งแต่เด็ก สมัยห้าสิบปีก่อน การกินข้าวหมูแดงต้องเข้ามากินในเมือง (ตัวเมืองนครปฐม เนื่องจากบ้านผู้เขียนอยู่ในตำบลดอนยายหอม ซึ่งอยู่ชายเขตติดต่อกับอำเภอบ้านแพ้วสมุทรสาคร) ร้านข้าวหมูแดงส่วนใหญ่ตั้งอยู่ในตลาดเมืองนครปฐม ร้านที่พ่อมักพามากินมีอยู่ 2-3 ร้าน เช่น ร้านตั้งฮะเส็ง ร้านชินฮะเส็ง ร้านฉั้ว กินสลับๆ กันไป และต้องซื้อติดมือกลับไปฝากคนที่บ้านกันด้วย
